I'm also using a macbook pro and from time to time UrT crashes directly after starting - without any error message. However restarting the OS usually fixed this.
Maybe try a clean install of Os X, sounds as if something is really broken there

Nah, osx is hard to kill, it's not like windows.

disc warrior or tech tools even gets a damage disc running.

if everything else is working fine it's an urt exclusive issue:)
